Kairos Facilitators Training Course Report
Kairos Course Report
Leeds Summer Mission, 23-27 August 2010
This summer a team of young Europeans gathered in Leeds, UK for a week-long outreach and mission discipleship programme.
June 2010 saw the conclusion to the Newcastle Kairos course. There was a sense among participants and facilitators involved with the course that the timing of Kairos was key for the city and this was also the first Kairos to be held in the North-East of England. Added to that was also the excitement of the location, as it was from the shores of Northumberland that the Celts embarked on their first missionary journeys into Europe and beyond.
The course was held over five consecutive days, 19-23 April. It was intended to be a joint course with the 24-7:Transit team, but unfortunately the 24-7 contingent were stranded in Belfast due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. It was agreed on Sunday afternoon (the day before) that the course should go-ahead, even though there were oinly four participants. It was understood that it would be a different experience and that it would not be possible to do the kiwi-kampi game. James Price and Joey facilitated the course; Charles joined us for one day, introducing chapter seven and acting as the Imam during the contextualised worship.
We had 9 participants. They came from Finland, Iraq (Syrian Orthodox background, who accepted Jesus as a student here in Bradford), America, Indiam (orginally Hindu but again was saved here in Bradford), others from UK from different denominations. One couple will move to Oman to work, but now after Kairos envisions a whole new purpose in their move and work there. Also the Iraqi participant is returning to Iraq after she completes an intership in Northern Ireland. It was an exciting and diverse group of people...
The course was held over two weekends, 5-7 and 19-21 March 2010 at the new Headquarters building of Glasgow City Mission. We used Friday evenins anbd daytime Saturday and Sunday, running into the early evening on the second Saturday to allow for the cultural meal and contextualised worship. In total we had six facilitators. Everyone worked exceptionally well together as a team, which made my first attempt as Head Facilitator a real joy!
